This is another edition of our article where you will learn how to configure Google Android Assistant on your device. But the question is, does your phone support this feature? Also check that out in this article.
The Google Assistant has become one of the most crucial parts of our daily lives with the ability to use voice to control our phones and get hands-free help.
To configure Google Assistant on your device, kindly follow the guidelines below. But before proceeding, what are the devices that support this feature?
Device Requirements for Google Assistant
Before we proceed, check your phone and make sure it can run this feature. If not, it may not work for you or you can make use of the lite version of the app.
For Android devices:
- Versions 5.0 and up, with at least 1 GB of RAM available.
- phone screen resolution of about 720p or higher.
- Versions 6.13 and up of the Google application
- Google Play services
The iOS version is as follows:
- iOS 11 and above
- Then you need the Google Assistant application to complete it.
If your phone does not meet the requirements, such as having a low version or insufficient storage space, you may make use of Google Assistant Go as an alternative.
Google Assistant Go is a lite version of the real Google Assistant for users with an unsupported version or low space. But the only disadvantage to this version is that it has fewer features. It's just to perform some little useful tasks.

How do I turn on Google Assistant?
Google Assistant is already enabled by default on almost all Android phones. However, this feature can be turned off at any time. Some users don’t like it, so they prefer to turn it off. Likewise, the feature has become part of many users' lives.
To verify whether Google Assistant is turned on on your phone, simply “long-press the Home button.” If turned on, the assistant will pop up waiting for you to say something. The assistant can even pick a voice close to you. But if it is not actively on, follow the steps below to turn it on:
- Open the settings on your device.
- Navigate to the Google app
- On the same page, scroll down and select “settings for Google apps.”
- Tap “search, Assistant & voice”
- Click "General.”
- Activate the Google Assistant with a toggle switch.
Once it is activated, the assistant is ready to give you answers to your questions and give you relevant results. To run a check, repeat the step I’ve explained earlier in this post by long-pressing the Home page button on your phone.
The Google Assistant should display something like “Hi, how can I help?" You can start using it. It means the assistant is activated or turned on.

How do I make Google Assistant to recognize my voice?
You can make Google Assistant recognize your voice via voice match and get hands-free help, but you will need to train your voice with the assistant by saying “Hey Google” or “Ok Google." With this, the Google Assistant would be able to recognize your voice when used.
Follow the procedure below:
- Open settings on your Android device.
- Look for the Google app.
- Navigate through the page and tap Settings for Google apps.
- Select “Search, Assistant & voice”
- Select voice
- Then, select a voice match.
- Follow the instructions by saying “Ok Google” or “Hey Google.”
If after toggling the voice match, the assistant still does not recognize your voice, on the same page, select voice model to retrain the Google assistant to recognize your voice.
The purpose of this voice match is to recognize your voice and tell you apart from others so it can give you info meant just for you.
How to use Google Assistant on iPhone
The procedure for using Google Assistant on the iPhone is slightly different from that on the Android phone. For instance, on an Android phone, you can make Google Assistant recognize your voice via voice match and use it even without opening the app, but on an iPhone, it is different. Any time you want to use it, you’ll need to go to the app.
